Evocation I ist vom gregorianischen Cantus Planus inspiriert, der von Papst Gregor I [*540–†604] im 6. Jh. in die Liturgie eingeführt wurde. Evocation II beginnt mit einer frohlockenden Melodie, die als Schatulle zur Kantate 93 'Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten' von J.S. Bach dient, deren Worte eine Vertrauensbotschaft liefern. In den letzten Takten des Werkes flüstert die intime Stimme der Trompete (mit weichem Dämpfer) langsame, einfache Noten auf beruhigenden Akkorden. Evocation I is inspired by the Gregorian Chants as introduced into the liturgy by Pope Gregory I during the 6th century. Bach 'Who only lets dear God rule', the words of which delivering a message that engenders confidence.
