Commissioned by and dedicated to the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Germany (Director Franz Xaver Ohnesorg) for Dennis Russell Davies and Maki Namekawa, China West Suite was premiered June 4, 2007. A suite of four movements, inspired by the folk music of western China - in particular, the cultures of the Meng, Yi, Zang, and Miao, the work displays Chen's skillful blending of Eastern imagery and Western techniques. Set of two scores required for performance. For college-level and advanced pianists. |
